MG is a British badge built today by SAIC, and its petrol cars use European DIN battery cases with recessed posts, not the taller JIS type found in most Japanese cars. A JIS battery will not sit or clamp properly in an MG tray.

Most 1.5 petrol ZS models use a DIN-size flooded battery, because the non-turbo engine normally has no start-stop. Often, yes. Start-stop switches itself off when the battery can no longer hold enough charge, so that message tends to appear weeks before a no-start. We test voltage and cranking strength at the car. If the battery is still healthy we tell you, and the cause lies elsewhere.
Fitting a battery of the correct size and technology is normal maintenance, but check your warranty booklet for the exact terms on your car. We fit EFB or AGM where the car came with it and list the battery details on the invoice. The new battery carries its own warranty of up to 24 months.
Often around two years. Batteries last three to five years in mild climates, but Gulf heat speeds up the chemistry, and many MGs here do short city trips or fleet duty with long idling. A voltage and load test once a year from the second year shows where yours stands.
