A car that will not start does not always need a new battery. The technician tests first, then does the smallest job that gets you moving.
When it fits: The battery fails the test, will not hold charge, or is swollen or leaking.
When it fits: Lights were left on or the car sat for days, and the battery is otherwise healthy.
When it fits: Slow cranking, a warning light, or a battery that keeps going flat.
Mitsubishi in the UAE splits into two groups. Pajero and Montero Sport are family 4x4s that often stay on the road for many years. Attrage, Lancer, L200 and Canter are workhorses for rental firms, delivery companies and contractors. Ageing wiring on the first group and constant stop-and-go driving on the second both wear batteries down fast.
The Outlander PHEV has a 12V auxiliary battery in the rear of the car, separate from the drive battery. It powers the electronics that start the plug-in system. If the car shows no life at all, this small battery is the first thing we test.

Pajero production ended in 2021, so every one on the road is getting older. On these cars we look at terminal corrosion, the earth strap and alternator output as well as the battery, because a new battery fitted to a weak charging system fails early.
Many Canter light trucks use a 24V system with two 12V batteries connected in series. They should be replaced as a matched pair, and a 12V car cannot jump-start them. Tell us it is a truck when you call so we can confirm what is needed.
The 1.2-litre Attrage and Mirage use a compact NS40-class battery. It suits the small engine but has little spare capacity for long waits with the blower, lights and phone chargers running while the engine is off, which is common in delivery and rental use.
Lancer, ASX and Outlander generally take a D23 case, while Pajero uses the longer D26. The two are easy to confuse by eye. A battery that is too short moves in the tray and one that is too long will not clamp, so we measure against the model first.

It depends on the system voltage. Many Canters run on 24V from two batteries in series, so ordinary 12V jump leads from a car will not work and can cause damage. Tell us the truck model and whether it is 12V or 24V, and we confirm what we can send before dispatch.
The Attrage takes a small NS40-class battery of about 35 Ah. It is light and quick to change, and the job is usually done where the car is parked. Because the capacity is low, we also look for lights or accessories that drain it while the car stands.
Rapid clicking nearly always means the battery is too weak to turn the starter. A jump start should get the engine running, and a test then shows whether the battery can be recharged or has failed. One loud click with bright lights points to the starter motor instead.
