Calcium plates lose less water than older designs, which matters when under-bonnet temperatures stay high for months. Even so, a sealed CMF battery cannot be refilled once the level drops, and heat drives that loss. Solite AGM handles heat and cycling better. Solite batteries are made by Hyundai Sungwoo Solite at its plant in Gyeongju, South Korea. The company traces its history to Kyungwon Industry, established in 1979, and exports under the Solite name to many countries. In Korea it supplies batteries to Hyundai Motor Company and other car makers as original equipment.
The link to Korean cars is documented, not just implied by the name. A Kia owner's manual names Solite among the suppliers of the 12V battery fitted at the factory. So when a Kia or Hyundai arrives in the UAE with a Solite under the bonnet, the replacement can be the same brand and the same specification.
CMF on a Solite label stands for calcium maintenance-free. Calcium alloy in the plates cuts water loss and self-discharge compared with older antimony designs, which is why the battery is sealed and never topped up. The range leans toward the sizes Asian cars use. Coverage for European cars is narrower, so a BMW or Volkswagen is usually better served by another brand.
Not every Solite size is kept in stock in the UAE. Less common sizes may need a different brand on the day.
