What to know about Volvo batteries
The support battery
Start-stop Volvos use a second, much smaller battery to hold voltage steady while the engine restarts. When it weakens, start-stop stops working and a service message appears. On recent mild-hybrid models a 48V battery does this job instead.
Charging fault and power save
Volvo drivers see messages along the lines of 12 V battery charging fault, or low battery charge with power save mode. The first can point to the charging system or battery sensor as much as the battery. The second means the car is limiting infotainment to protect starting power.
Does the EM90 need battery registration?
Volvos with a battery monitoring sensor need it reset with a diagnostic tool after replacement, so the car stops charging for an aged battery. Older models have no sensor. We confirm before dispatch whether the reset is included.

Volvo EM90 battery questions
Which battery does a Volvo EM90 take?
A Volvo EM90 typically takes an AGM or EFB battery, in the range DIN 70 – DIN 100 (L3–L5). The EM90 uses start-stop and energy recovery, so it needs an AGM or EFB battery. A conventional battery in its place wears out within months.
Can you replace a EM90 battery where it is parked?
Yes. We come to homes, offices, basement and mall parking and the roadside across our Dubai coverage. Send the building name, parking level and any security rules so the technician can reach the car.
Does the EM90 need battery registration?
It depends on the year and specification. Versions with a battery sensor or start-stop need the new battery registered or the monitoring reset. Tell us the model year and we confirm before dispatch whether it applies and whether it is included.
How long does a EM90 battery last in the UAE?
About two years is typical here, against three to five in cooler climates. Heat ages the battery whether the car is driven or not, and short trips with the AC on full never quite recharge it. A test before summer shows how much life is left.
Where is the battery on a Volvo XC90?
In the cargo area. On the current XC90 it is reached by lifting the load floor at the back, and the first-generation car also has it under the boot floor. The current car has jump points under the bonnet, so a boost does not need the boot emptied.
