Models with the 12V lithium battery manage it through built-in electronics, so replacement is a workshop job done with the correct part for that car. BYDs with a lead-acid auxiliary battery are replaced like for like at the car.
BYD moved many recent models from lead-acid to a 12V lithium iron phosphate battery with its own management electronics. It is designed for a much longer service life but cannot be swapped for a generic lead-acid battery at the roadside. We confirm what your car has before dispatch.
A BYD can show a full high-voltage pack and still refuse to wake. The contactors that connect the big battery are closed by the 12V system, so a flat 12V battery locks everything out. A 12V boost done to the manual procedure usually brings the car back.
Roadside work on a BYD is limited to testing and boosting the 12V circuit and replacing a lead-acid auxiliary battery where one is fitted. Orange high-voltage cables and the traction pack are left alone. Faults there belong with the BYD service centre.

Every BYD sold new in the UAE today is electric or plug-in hybrid: the Atto 3, Seal, Han and Sealion 7 as EVs, the Song Plus and Qin Plus as hybrids, and the Shark 6 pickup. None relies on a starter motor in the old sense. The 12V battery only wakes the electronics, yet the car is stuck without it.

It depends on what is fitted. Many Atto 3 cars have a 12V lithium iron phosphate battery, which we do not swap at the roadside. We can test the 12V system and boost it to get the car awake. If yours has a lead-acid auxiliary battery, we replace it on the spot.
The 12V side can be boosted so the car wakes and the high-voltage system takes over charging. It has to follow the procedure in the owner manual for that model, using the correct points. We never connect anything to the high-voltage system, and a BYD should not be used to jump another car unless the manual allows it.
Treat it as a warning to act soon. Once the car is in ready mode the high-voltage system normally keeps the 12V battery charged, so the risk is the next start after parking. If the message returns, have the 12V system tested. Repeated low readings on a lithium unit need the service centre.
Send the model, year, your location and a photo of the 12V battery label if you can see it without removing covers. Leave anything marked high voltage alone. With that we can tell you plainly if this is a roadside job or one for the dealer, before anyone drives out.
