What to know about BYD batteries
Dead car, full traction battery
A BYD can show a full high-voltage pack and still refuse to wake. The contactors that connect the big battery are closed by the 12V system, so a flat 12V battery locks everything out. A 12V boost done to the manual procedure usually brings the car back.
We stay on the 12V side
Roadside work on a BYD is limited to testing and boosting the 12V circuit and replacing a lead-acid auxiliary battery where one is fitted. Orange high-voltage cables and the traction pack are left alone. Faults there belong with the BYD service centre.
Does the Flyer need battery registration?
Models with the 12V lithium battery manage it through built-in electronics, so replacement is a workshop job done with the correct part for that car. BYDs with a lead-acid auxiliary battery are replaced like for like at the car.

Which battery does a BYD Flyer take?
A BYD Flyer typically takes a maintenance-free flooded battery, in the range DIN 45 – DIN 60 / NS40 – NS60. The Flyer takes a sealed maintenance-free battery. In Gulf heat the things that matter are the correct case size, enough capacity for the AC and accessories, and a recent manufacture date.
Can you replace a Flyer battery where it is parked?
Yes. We come to homes, offices, basement and mall parking and the roadside across our Dubai coverage. Send the building name, parking level and any security rules so the technician can reach the car.
Does the Flyer need battery registration?
It depends on the year and specification. Versions with a battery sensor or start-stop need the new battery registered or the monitoring reset. Tell us the model year and we confirm before dispatch whether it applies and whether it is included.
How long does a Flyer battery last in the UAE?
About two years is typical here, against three to five in cooler climates. Heat ages the battery whether the car is driven or not, and short trips with the AC on full never quite recharge it. A test before summer shows how much life is left.
Can a BYD be jump-started?
The 12V side can be boosted so the car wakes and the high-voltage system takes over charging. It has to follow the procedure in the owner manual for that model, using the correct points. We never connect anything to the high-voltage system, and a BYD should not be used to jump another car unless the manual allows it.
