How it works, step by step

  1. Report the behaviour

Call or WhatsApp with your location and car details. Note whether the fault shows when cold, after a long drive or in traffic, and photograph any dashboard message.

  2. Collection by flatbed

A transmission that slips or sits in limp mode is carried on a flatbed, because driving it can turn a fluid or valve fault into worn clutches.

  3. Scan, fluid check, quote

The workshop reads the control unit, checks fluid level and condition at the correct temperature, and road tests if safe. You get the diagnosis and a quote before work starts.

  4. Repair and adaptation

After the approved repair or fluid service, shift adaptations are reset where the model requires it and the car is driven until fully warm. It is then returned to you.

Signs you need transmission repair

  • Engine revs rise but the car does not pick up speed to match.

  • Shifts are delayed or arrive with a jolt, mostly once the car is hot.

  • A transmission warning appears and the car stays in one gear.

  • A shudder is felt when pulling away gently or at steady low speed.

What transmission repair covers

  • Transmission control unit scan and live data

  • Fluid level and condition check at temperature

  • Fluid and filter service with the specified fluid

  • Valve body, solenoid and mechatronic repair

  • Transmission cooler and line inspection

  • Adaptation reset and road test after the work

What Gulf conditions change

  • Heat is the main enemy of transmission fluid. Crawling through Dubai traffic in summer gives the transmission cooler little airflow while the torque converter or clutches generate heat constantly. Fluid that has overheated darkens, loses its friction properties and shifts start to slip or flare. Dual-clutch units with dry clutches are especially sensitive to slow, creeping traffic.

Transmission Repair: questions

All questions and answers
How is this different from gearbox repair?

Gearbox repair on this site covers mechanical work: bearings, synchros, mounts, seals and manual gearboxes. Transmission repair covers what makes an automatic, CVT or dual-clutch unit shift: fluid, valve body, solenoids, mechatronics, torque converter and control software. If you are unsure which applies, describe the symptom and we direct the car correctly.

Is transmission fluid really filled for life?

Some manufacturers say so, but the lifetime they mean assumes moderate conditions. Fluid ages faster with heat, traffic and towing, all common here. Many transmission makers publish change intervals even where the car maker does not. Whether a service suits your car depends on the model, mileage and the condition of the fluid, which is checked first.

Does a CVT or dual-clutch need a special fluid?

Yes. A CVT uses a fluid made for its belt or chain and pulleys, and a dual-clutch unit uses its own type. Neither is interchangeable with conventional automatic fluid, and the wrong one can cause shudder or damage. The specification varies by make and model, and the workshop confirms it before any service.

What does transmission repair cost?

It depends on the cause. A fluid service or a solenoid is at one end, and a mechatronic unit, torque converter or full overhaul is at the other. The scan and fluid check narrow it down. You receive a quote with the parts and labour involved before anything is opened, and the decision is yours.
