Land Rover fits a battery monitoring module on the negative terminal. A charger or jump lead should go to the body earth point, not the negative post, so the module can count the charge going in. Our technicians connect it that way.
Mild hybrid on newer models
Six-cylinder versions of the current Defender and recent Discovery use a 48V mild-hybrid system alongside the 12V AGM battery. The 12V battery still powers the electronics and is the one that runs down when the car sits. Its location varies, so we check first.
Does the LR2 need battery registration?
The battery monitoring system is reset with a diagnostic tool after fitting, so it stops treating the battery as aged. Classic Defenders and the Discovery 2 have no such system. Before dispatch we confirm if that reset is included.

Which battery does a Land Rover LR2 take?
A Land Rover LR2 typically takes an AGM or EFB battery, in the range DIN 70 – DIN 100 (L3–L5). The LR2 uses start-stop and energy recovery, so it needs an AGM or EFB battery. A conventional battery in its place wears out within months.
Can you replace a LR2 battery where it is parked?
Yes. We come to homes, offices, basement and mall parking and the roadside across our Dubai coverage. Send the building name, parking level and any security rules so the technician can reach the car.
Does the LR2 need battery registration?
On most model years, yes. The car tracks the age and type of its battery, so the new one has to be registered or it keeps charging as if the old battery were still fitted. We confirm before dispatch whether registration is included for your LR2.
How long does a LR2 battery last in the UAE?
About two years is typical here, against three to five in cooler climates. Heat ages the battery whether the car is driven or not, and short trips with the AC on full never quite recharge it. A test before summer shows how much life is left.
Does a Land Rover need a BMS reset after a new battery?
Discovery 3 onward, Discovery Sport and the current Defender all monitor the battery, and the system should be reset after replacement. If it is not, the car may keep start-stop disabled and charge the new battery as though it were worn. We confirm the reset before dispatch.
